The idea of a convertible SUVs remains attractive enough that manufacturers are still trying to figure out how to make it work – case in point, we recently heard that Range Rover continues to debate production of the Evoque convertible. On that note, the folks at Mega Engineering Vehicle, have given us a look at what a Range Rover Autobiography looks like with a Range Rover 2 door convertible.
It still looks like one of the nicest ways to see lions, tigers and bears from a safe distance, or take a tour of the Champs-Elysée or Tokyo’s Ginza district.
For now, the issue with every topless SUV that isn’t shaped like a box is what they look like with the top up, and the Range Rover 2 door convertible doesn’t escape the quandary unscathed; the only two that do escape are the Jeep Wrangler and Land Rover Defender, because they’re shaped like boxes. As a second vehicle for your rain-free third home in Barcelona or Dubai, however, it could be the thing.
Evidently, there’s an untapped market for all sorts of additional body styles for the new generation of Land Rover’s Range Rover luxury SUV, and Mega Engineering Vehicle is more than happy to bring on the goods to those with pretty deep pockets.
After chopping the roof off from the factory five-door Range Rover, MEV introduced two more more editions, both with two doors – a coupe and a 2 door Range Rover Convertible variant.
MEV says it has completed the design and engineering work on the 2 door Range Rover Convertible based on the luxed-up Range Rover Supercharged Autobiography model, and is now accepting pre-orders. It plans to limit production to 20 examples.
The Convertible will be followed up by the tin-top Coupe Range Rover Autobiography with extended front doors, which MEV says, “will be featured at upcoming Auto Shows”. We guess that means the SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
